TGen Running for Kids with Rare Diseases team

What a great weekend meeting my patient partners for this year’s marathon team. Hayden and Tanner invited me to meet them this weekend to run on their T-Gen Running for Kids with Rare Diseases team at the P.F. Chang Rock-n-Roll Marathon in Phoenix.

A trip to the race expo Friday night, dinner at the Phoenix Children’s Museum Saturday and race day on Sunday kept us going from bell to bell. I’m especially grateful to Hayden and Tanner’s family along with Wylder’s family for making Phil and I feel like imagerock stars this weekend. You guys are awesome!

My plans for a sub-4 marathon were not meant to be. Not today anyway. A special shout out to our team captain Phil for putting together a 6-week plan to get me race-ready for today. My heart and mind were ready to go. My left hamstring had other plans. I’ll spare you the 26.2 miles of “play-by” only to say “ouch”.

Not sure how exactly I got to the finish line; but know that I wouldn’t have made it without everyone’s support and encouragement. Thank you.

I’m flying high right now, literally and figuratively as I’m on my way back home and all I can think about is seeing the smiles on Hayden and Tanner’s faces as they proudly wore their finisher medals. Way to go Hayden & Tanner!
